People Manager



Talon has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional HR generalist with strong operational experience to join our expanding People Team. The People Manager role reports into the Head of People and will require you to manage HR operational activities in the UK, drive people and cultural initiatives and projects and help support in developing and empowering the team.


  • Support Head of People in maintenance of HR annual plan and cycle of events to ensure key HR activities take place and taking the lead on many of these.
  • Counsel hiring managers on how to recruit, train, and develop staff ensuring all positions are filled in a timely manner with qualified and appropriate employees.
  • Manage talent development and performance management practices including the appraisal and annual pay review process.
  • Coach, support, mentor and challenge managers in the application of HR policies and practices, providing advice and guidance on complex HR issues.
  • Maintain and support in developing UK policies and procedures, including keeping staff handbook up to date, and ensuring they are communicated effectively and adhered to.
  • Help devise and execute annual training programme conducting effective training needs analysis of the business and delivering solutions to meet those needs.
  • Deliver training to staff including recruitment training, line management training, etc.
  • Management of employee engagement platform, analysing and communicating of data, and leading on action planning.
  • Manage UK benefits programme ensuring it is being communicated and utilised effectively and supporting Head of People in reviewing and renewing benefits.
  • Responsible for managing the People Forum, ensuring it remains true to its purpose and effective.
  • Manage HR systems and tools, making improvements where possible to increase efficiencies.
  • Work closely with Talon’s finance team to ensure payroll is approved each month and they are kept informed of changes that impact on costs and the bottom line.
  • Promote the Company’s culture and identify ways to integrate culture into HR processes/initiatives.
  • Management and development of the People Executive providing direction and motivation, conducting appraisals and to cover their duties when out of the office.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands on HR operational experience.
  • Experience within a start-up or SME scaling up is preferable
  • Experience working within a media, marketing or communications company is desirable but not essential.
  • Line management experience and a good track record of developing people is preferable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Practical and pragmatic.
  • Great interpersonal skills and proven track record in building relationships with stakeholders.
  • A team player who is able to work independently but also not afraid to muck in.
